7,000 people all set for Status Quo’s Shrewsbury show

About 7,000 people are expected to cram into Shrewsbury’s Quarry tonight as legendary rockers Status Quo take to the stage.

The band is being supported by 10cc in a three-hour show that will be rounded off with a firework display.

Chris Bailey, a spokesman for concert organisers IML, said: “We are on course to sell around the 7,000 mark, which is good news.”

He said the Quarry should make an excellent venue for the gig. “It is a beautiful spot down by the river and is almost a natural amphitheatre. If it is dry, it is lovely.”

Lest hope the town center moaners don’t complain too much.

Cycling along the river this afternoon, I noticed that yet again some profit-driven private outfit was putting up barriers and closing off access to our public space.

Would it be too much for us council tax payers to get year-round access to the Quarry, plus the right of way by the river, not interrupted by concerts, circuses and flower shows?

Just feel sorry for the people who spent so much money attending this event who then had to struggle home along the unlit riverbank from the quarry to St Julians friars – hope everyone got home safely
