Shropshire border couple thought missing – until Mounties found their van

Newlyweds from the south Shropshire border inadvertently sparked a major manhunt in Canada after being reported missing by worried relatives, it was revealed today.
Caroline and Ben Davies, from Leintwardine, were blissfully unaware that Mounties and park rangers had been searching for them.
The holidaying couple, who police said were both experienced in the great outdoors, had borrowed a family member’s pick-up truck last month and said they were planning to head towards Alaska.
But they had failed to contact relatives since June 22, which raised fears for their safety as they had been scheduled to return to Vancouver by July 4.
Family members were particularly concerned as during their last phone call, from Smithers in British Columbia, they had mentioned hiring kayaks.

The van owned by the couple, who married last month, was spotted yesterday by a Mountie, who pulled it over and found the puzzled pair to be happy and well inside.
Sergeant Rob Vermeulen, from Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said: “An alert member checked their identities and confirmed they were safe.
“The couple was apparently enjoying their vacation unaware that they had been reported missing.
“We thank the public, and our many community partners like conservation officers and park rangers that assisted in looking for this couple and passing along information.
“We are pleased the couple have been located safe and sound and this is the outcome we were all hoping for.”
Mr Davies, 37, and his wife, 28, had been holidaying in Canada since early June.
