Private firm asked to help revamp Shrewsbury Christmas lights

Shrewsbury’s Christmas lights display will be revamped this year. A private firm is being asked to help make the town look bright and colourful over the festive period.
The festive lights are seen as being as important as the summer floral displays by town chiefs who say their economic value is “immeasurable”.
And last night Shrewsbury Town Council agreed to put the lights out to tender from with a decision on the winning bidder expected in the coming months.
Town clerk Helen Ball said updating the town’s display would be worthwhile expenditure for the town council and savings could actually be made by outsourcing the work to the private sector.
“We spent a hell of a lot of money putting them up and taking them down. We had to look to what is the best value for money,” Mrs Ball said.
She added that spending money on an impressive display that could attract tourists was a sensible approach for the council.
“The economic value to the town is probably immeasurable and it adds to the vitality of the town. We see the Christmas lights in the same way as the floral displays in the summer.
“We are really proud of the town centre and if we can do our bit by putting up Christmas lights then how can you argue?”

Sounds good to me.
However, let us hope that they will be in a more traditional theme and retain the words CHRISTMAS GREETINGS , and none of that silly Happy Festival Rubbish and the like that some idiots come up with.
No One of other religions that I know have any objections to Christians celebrating Christmas as has been done for over 2000 years.
As indeed us Christians have no objections to any other religious celebrating there own beliefs.
