Road closed in both directions after accident

A 35-year-old man has suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a van while walking in Shropshire today, police said.

Officers said the pedestrian was walking along Hill Road in Donnington, Telford, when the collision with a white van happened at about 6.15am.

Denise Wakefield, spokeswoman for Telford police, said the white Transit van was travelling from the direction of the Humbers, towards Kynnersley, when it collided with the man.

At least one lane leading from Newport Road to the A518 junction remained closed during rush hour traffic this morning.

Mrs Wakefield said: “The white Transit van was in collision with a male pedestrian and we had the call at 6.17am.

“The 35-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in the Princess Royal Hospital.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance was at the scene and conveyed a patient to the Princess Royal Hospital.”
