Shaky looking forward to Ludlow Festival concert

Singer Shakin’ Stevens has hailed the “fantastic atmosphere” of Ludlow and its castle ahead of his first performance in the town this weekend.

Shaky will be the headline act at tomorrow’s Ludlow Festival finale, which will also feature a fireworks display and a performance by support act The Sultana Brothers.

The singer is no stranger to the town – he visited last summer on a break from recording in the Forest of Dean.

And although it will be a very different gig to his appearance at Glastonbury three years ago, he cannot wait to perform at the castle. He said: “I love the history of the town and had a good wander around the castle and the town, it’s wonderful.”

Meanwhile author, TV personality and former politician Gyles Brandreth entertained a near sell-out crowd at Ludlow Assembly Rooms last night as part of the festival.

In a breathless performance, Brandreth drew plenty of laughs with his accounts of meetings with members of the royal family and former prime ministers.

Highlights included lessons learned from ex-PM John Major on how to avoid buying raffle tickets at village fetes and his non-PC take on the unveiling of the Coalition Government last year.

Tickets for tomorrow’s finale, costing £30, are on sale at the box office outside the castle, by calling (01584) 872150 or at www.ludlowfestival.co.uk
