Dawley’s landscape is continuing to change with a huge earthmoving operation to prepare Paddock Mount for the rebuilt Phoenix School.

Take a look at what our video team found today.

Interesting that the headmaster says “we started to design that vision (i.e. the new school) six years ago”.

So why was it that no one else knew about this until 18 months ago?

…and what exactly are they planning to do with the existing Phoenix School site?

…and how many people know that the path between Langley Fields and Dawley is closed for good?

It can take years for an idea to become a vision, a design and then a plan. Generally, the first you get to hear about it is when the plan is submitted.

As a student in Phoenix we knew this many years ago, but never knew when it would all start. :)

What a coincidence. A supermarket on the site as well. Whats happening to the old site? Another supermarket? A supermarket on woodland area would never have got planning permission but no-one can say no to a new school building.

The “6 years” comment just goes to confirm my assertion that this was the Council’s plan from the very beginning and that the original “Extension of the High Street” plans published alongside the so called “Public Consultation” were only to get Dawley people on-board with the redevelopment. Instead of transparency, Dawley had a “Smoke and Mirrors” consultation manipulated by local councillors who (thankfully!) paid for their deceit in the Council elections.

    However…

There does appear to be an interesting strategy in SLC devlopment by Telford and Wrekin council which involves developing sites of little commercial value as schools by using Government funding leaving the potential of selling the more lucrative abandoned sites (presumably) for Housing?). The irony is that if the Public were made aware of this strategy and the benefits of the incoming funding to their community and allowed some real input they might actually support it?

The Shropshire Star’s initial lack of coverage of the Dawley redevelopment and inability to ask any meaningful questions about tree-felling and the changes of direction (despite significant prompting from myself) is also very worrying and in my opinion smacks of collusion!

Telford needs a newspaper that reports and investigates on local issues that affect real people – sadly we don’t!

The main story in this week’s Telford Journal is about trade in Dawley plumetting since the “regeneration”.

What will it be like when a new supermarket opens on the other side of the main road to the High Street?

All the bandstands and murals in the world won’t entice shoppers back into a declining area.
