Charity’s alert on donation shortage
Thursday 7th July 2011, 1:59PM BST.
A “big upsurge” in demand for furniture at charity shops from hard-up Shropshire families has led to a shortage of donations to outlets in the county, officials claimed today.
Now the relationship organisation Relate, which has seven shops across the county, has introduced an advice service for bereaved relatives faced with having to break up a long-established family home.
The Shrewsbury-based charity has skilled counsellors who provide a wide range of support for individuals and couples, as well as helping children facing difficulties at home.
Lin Foley, chief executive of Relate in Shropshire, said: “The volunteers running our shop report a big upsurge in demand for both clothing and furniture.
“The furniture situation can present difficulties for families but we are prepared to advise on how to dispose of what remains in a house once personal selections have been made. And, of course, we provide a collection service for larger items.”
