Oswestry’s Citizens Advice Bureau may have to cut services if it cannot find more money.
The bureau, which has been operating in the town for more than 30 years, has found itself facing a 20 per cent cut in its funding.
It says to continue providing the service it offers to the people in the town it must find a new source of funding.
Shropshire Council has announced that it is cutting the core funding for the CAB in Shropshire by a fifth over the next three years.
At the moment, as well as offices in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Bridgnorth, the bureau has a successful centre in Oswestry which has four paid staff and 11 volunteers.
A recent independent report highlighted Oswestry CAB as one of the top five most valued places in Oswestry. Last year it dealt with 2,909 issues helping 691 clients.
To try to bridge the funding gap in Oswestry the bureau is bidding for £1,000 of a £4,000 pot from Oswestry Town Council’s large grant scheme.
