Telford council chief in quit offer
Friday 1st July 2011, 12:30PM BST.
The chief executive of Telford & Wrekin Council has offered to quit less than two months after Labour wrestled control of the authority from the Tories.
Victor Brownlees has put forward a request for voluntary redundancy and the council’s ruling cabinet will now decide whether he should stay or go.
His shock move has been prompted by a Labour shake-up of top brass at the authority and the new ruling group’s decision to make it a “co-operative” council.
If Mr Brownlees goes, the council will be left looking for its third chief executive in two years.
Nigel Newman, a spokesman for the council, said today: “The council is to commission a review of the senior management team to align this more closely to the Co-Operative Council model. In a linked move, the council’s chief executive Victor Brownlees has offered to take voluntary redundancy.”
