What happened when Sally Bercow, the wife of House of Commons Speaker John Bercow, arrived at an under-threat Shropshire day centre despite being told she would be refused entry by Shropshire Council, which owns the building?

Watch our exclusive video online and see tomorrow’s Shropshire Star to see how the outspoken political activist responded when told she was not welcome.

The 41-year-old, who has a son with autism, said she had been invited by a service user at the Grange Day Centre in Shrewsbury, which is set to close under Shropshire Council cutbacks next month.

Well done shropshire council now the world will know you are a dictatorship as this lady has a interest in disability matters she wanted to see the centre her husband is a tory mp but as speaker has to be neutral but you are saying his wife can’t be even before she opens her mouth freedom freedom my country what a beautiful country you are.

This is, presumably, the politically neutral Sally Bercow the failed New Blue Labour Party parliamentary candidate?

Or perhaps some other Bossy Bercow?

I’m getting a little cheesed off with the NBLP members seeking self publicity by suddenly latching on to disability and sickness far from home.

Is Buckinghamshire Council, that being the county where, presumably, she has a house, totally perfect? No similar problems to Shropshire?

Of course there are some terrible and wrong things happening, this closure certainly looks like one of them. But almost all councils seem to be doing callous things first, while one of my relatives still flirts around the country and the World, fact finding about Wheely Bins! A Tornado of change needs to sweep through these snug little empires, before they start hitting Care and Respite. Best of all would be to make the Banks pay up their gambling debts then none of this would be needed.

Well said. The visit was coordinated by the former local Labour party branch secretary, who now fronts the ‘stop the cuts campaign’.

This was a publicity stunt by a failed Labour candidate. I assume she had confirmed she had been CRB checked before attempting to force her way in?

The officers were right to stop her and any other self publicists. After all this is a centre for vulnerable people, not a zoo!

They have a disabled child and probably understand the benefit day care offers to people caring for the disabled and offa oh so right about the banks need to pay their dues not the disabled.

I’m not sure why Sally Bercow feels that she needs to invite the media to a visit that she claims to be personal to her. Surely the dignity of the centre users should be central to her visit, how does this help anyone?

Interesting that the powers that be at Shropshire Council are protocol pedants over this but are happy to flout the rules when it comes to closing schools and day centres.
