250 comments over Whitchurch Tesco plan
Wednesday 29th June 2011, 11:45AM BST.
Residents in Whitchurch have been inundating planning officers with comments about controversial plans by Tesco to create a store and redevelop its existing one in the town.
Shropshire Council has received more than 250 comments about the plans which would see a store being built in Edgeley Park and the existing White Lion Meadow one being turned into a convenience shop.
As part of the Edgeley Park redevelopment, the town’s rugby and hockey club will be redeveloped.
Campaigners against the proposal want Tesco to redevelop its existing store, fearing a move out of town would kill the high street.
Those in support of the project say it will bring much-needed retail competition into the town which will also benefit from improvements made to the rugby and hockey club.
Tesco’s Sophie Akokhia said they wanted to develop a spacious store with a wider range of quality products.
Rival Sainsbury’s has also lodged a plan for a store off London Road.

So 250 people commented on these plans. Out of a population of circa 8,000 that seems to indicate that most of the inhabitants either want the supermarket, or, couldn’t care less.

May be Colin people know by now that no one stands up against a tesco application, especially shropshire council, ie, shrewsbury, welshpool, ellesmere, oswestry for example. Will they prove me wrong !!

On that flawed reasoning, I presume you deduce that since only 100,000 people demonstrated against the UK going to war in Iraq, 65 million British citizens wanted to kill people in a foreign country.
Face it, Tesco’s expansion is supported by government officers who act with delegated powers in response to the party in power which is inevitably lobbied in Westminster’s corridors of corruption.

I know Stockport County are a lowly club, but surely building a Tescos on Edgeley Park will be the last straw.
