Wrekin fundraising walk on target
Monday 27th June 2011, 4:02PM BST.
Organisers of a fundraising walk around one of Shropshire’s most iconic landmarks say preparations are well under way for this weekend’s event.
The Rotary Club of Wellington is hosting its annual Right Around The Wrekin Walk on Sunday, and is inviting associations, groups, and schools to take part.
Rotarian Don Woolford, who is organising the event, said: “We’ve heard from many local organisations who are all interested in taking part, and our website has been very busy with inquiries. But there’s still time for groups to register their interest.”
The idea is that people make a small donation to cover administration costs, but anything else they raise goes to their own organisation.
“We’ll be providing official sponsorship forms and this is an excellent opportunity for even very small groups to raise funds – we’ve already heard from all kinds of organisations,” said Mr Woolford.
The route is about eight kilometres and will take walkers right round the foot of The Wrekin. Starting times are between 10am and noon. It should take about two hours to complete.
