Telford roadworks to bring some disruption
Saturday 25th June 2011, 12:00AM BST.
Drivers are being warned to expect some disruption when parts of a Telford road are closed for repair works.
The programme for Arleston Lane in Arleston is part of a £14 million package to improve borough roads by Telford & Wrekin Council. Work will start on Monday and the council said it would be done in five phases.
Diversion routes will be in place where required, although the road could be re-opened during the evening while work is going on. Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for transport, said: “Improving carriageways across the borough is a priority for Telford & Wrekin Council and serious investment is needed to improve the state of the roads across the borough.
“That’s why we plan to address this in our special budget that will be announced later this summer.
“I appreciate that road closures are not popular and may cause some inconvenience, however, I hope residents will understand that they are necessary to improve the quality of roads across the borough.”
The first phase will start from the Buck’s Head junction to south of Woollam Road junction. Phase two will continue on as far as Lidgates Green, where residents are warned that access to Manor Rise will be managed by the contractor and access to Lidgates Green and Arleston Inn will be from the A5223 Lawley from the south.
Phase three will continue from the M54 underpass to Arleston Inn before work continues further along the road near Bella Vista for the final two phases.
Diversion routes will be signed along Bennetts Bank, Whitchurch Drive and Lawley Drive, A5223 to Newdale roundabout and the road may be opened during the evenings.
Access will be maintained for businesses within the road closure.
