Second fire in two days at Telford home
Tuesday 21st June 2011, 7:47PM BST.
Firefighters were today called to a Telford home for the second time in two days.
The latest blaze broke out at the home in Stonebridge Close, Aqueduct, today at about 10am. The property had been cordoned off after another fire in the early hours of yesterday morning.
A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said of today’s incident: “It was the same address that was on fire yesterday.
“Early indications are that it was a break-in and it’s a deliberate ignition. The back windows of the address have been smashed in. Fire investigators were on scene.”
West Mercia Police forced entry to neighbouring properties to ensure that area was safe and no-one was injured.
A police spokesman said: “Fire service have informed us of the fire and that it may have been started deliberately.
“We attended the scene and will be working with fire service to establish the cause and who might be responsible.”
Yesterday, a man was lucky to be alive after the first blaze broke out at his home and choked the building with thick smoke.
Firefighters believe he was only saved because he was awoken by flames scorching him. The man, in his 30s, was found outside the address covered with soot and suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
He was given emergency first aid at the scene before being taken to the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
