Buyer found for Bridgnorth Cliff Railway?
Monday 20th June 2011, 8:00PM BST.
A buyer may have been found for the historic Bridgnorth Cliff Railway after it was put on the market just four months ago, it was revealed today.
Estate agents behind the sale are remaining tight-lipped about a possible sale but said an announcement would be made shortly.
Jonathan Bengough, spokesman for agents Knight Frank, refused to confirm whether or not a buyer had been found for the railway but said: “An announcement will be made in three weeks time but it would be premature to make one now.
“We are, however, optimistic a buyer has been found.”
The historic railway, which is open seven days a week, links High Town and Low Town.
It was listed online by Knight Frank and received more than 600 hits in just three weeks after it was put up for sale.
At least 50 information packs were also sent out by request to people expressing an interest in buying.
The closing date for tenders was June 3.
Rail operators Allan and Jean Reynolds are selling all the shares in the Bridgnorth Castle Hill Railway Company, which includes the historic Cliff Railway.
The couple, who are retiring after 15 years, were today unavailable for comment.
The asking price of £700,000 to £800,000 includes the railway, a guesthouse, a tearoom and a flat. The railway employs 14 staff.
