More than 40 businesses have joined forces with police to stamp out crime on a Telford industrial estate by launching a scheme which they hope to roll out across the borough.

Police will carry out regular patrols on Stafford Park Industrial Estate and, as part of a crackdown on thefts, every business on the site has been given a free anti-crime kit by Telford-based firm SmartWater to help them trace any goods that are stolen.

Operation Citadel was launched yesterday in a bid to reverse a trend which saw 88 offences committed on Stafford Park Industrial Estate in 2009/10.

If it is successful it will be rolled out across all nine of Telford’s industrial estates.

There were 290 crimes on the town’s industrial estates according to the figures – down 120 from 2007/08.
