Telford pay and display car parking charges to rise
Friday 17th June 2011, 5:30PM BST.
Car parking charges are to go up by 40p in some parts of Telford from next month, council chiefs said today. The rises are being introduced at council pay and display car parks in the town.
They will come into force from July 9 as part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s budget proposals.
Council spokesman Russell Griffin said the in-creases only related to car parks where charges were already in place and stressed the hikes had been “kept to a minimum”, ranging from 10p to 40p.
He also stressed more than 80 per cent of council-managed parking spaces in the borough would remain free – more than 2,000 spaces. The changes will affect 128 spaces in town centre car parks at Southwater Way and near the Ice Rink and 270 spaces in five car parks in Ironbridge.
People parking in Southwater Way and at Telford Ice Rink will pay £1.30 – 20p more – for staying up to two hours, or 30p more – now £2 – for up to three hours.
Parking at The Bridge, Ironbridge, is going up to £3.10 for people staying more than four hours. It is currently £2.70.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for transport at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “We recognise that car parking price increases will not be popular and have kept them to a minimum.
“The changes were approved in March following public consultation through the council’s budget setting process and reflect the increasing maintenance costs associated with managing car parks.”
It comes as it was revealed the number of people paying to park in Shrewsbury town centre has fallen by 12 per cent from April to May this year compared to the same time in 2010.

You are showing Town Centre is that not owned by Hark Apollo, who I should imagine get the revenue from parking at the centre not Telford & Wrekin Council?

After a reported downturn in consumer spending is this really the way to go to tackle this particular financial problem?
I haven’t been to TTC for 2 years due to increased parking charges and I certainly won’t be driving there anytime soon, in fact the bus from Newport is cheaper!

Read the article people, it’s about pay and display car parks which means it’s not the ones at the Shopping Centre. It could be the Euro-car parks near the courts or the council owned car parks in places like Ironbridge.

the artical says it is the pay and park parks only but i will put my savings on that ttc car parks go up before xmas this year
