The mind boggles. I thought the circus was back in town.
If these sort of “creations” are ever seen being worn on the street, I am the next pope.
Total waste of time and money.

I was there last night as the parent of one of the students and yes you have totally missed the point.
A heartless comment and one that has no understanding of the time, effort and hard work that went into not only the show itself but the creations on display. Isn’t it worth celebrating that there are actually talented young people in Shrewsbury prepared to work hard in an attempt to not only better themselves but also to produce something. Fashion might not be everyones’ cup of tea but what is displayed on the catwalk does filter down to what is worn in everyday life.
Well done to everyone involved in what was a very professional show – shame that the excellence that is clearly present here can’t be celebrated by everyone.

Colin D-
What a miserable existence you must have. Trawling through the online paper to find a story you can be negative about. Perhaps when you “create” something or even achieve something other than getting a rise out of other people sat behind your computer screen, perhaps then your opinion may count for something. Until then- shhhhh your noise.
To the students that took part- well done!

Colin.D.
You have no right to say anything about these amazing creations! These students have put their all into designing outfits and you have got to be so heartless. I would really like to see you try and make some of these outfits. Get a grip and pick on someone your own size, not these talented students.

On the contrary,as a tax payer is he not entitled to make comment, after all ‘we’ are all paying for the following generations. Some things we like some we don’t, it’s called life, get used to it.

A Tax payer??? What about tax payers paying for the lazy lot on the DOLE!! THAT makes me mad! Not a bunch of young people getting off the streets and trying to make a better future for themselves! You get a life!

Actually you’re wrong, the Fashion Show was totally self funded, so please get your facts right before trying to slate something you clearly know nothing about at the expense of others. Evidently you do not have enough matter between your ears to see that the automotive market and the fashion clothing market are two that are separate(especially in this case) so thank god there are following generations that understand these simple facts.
It’s a shame your experience with your “Faily exclusive car manufacturers” ( which you’re obviously so proud of you forget to name) hasn’t made you aware of the concept on prototypes. Failing that simple understanding im sure the fact you worked, in the past tense, has something to do with this.

I’m one of the students featured in the video..
First of all thank you for watching the video,
but you fail to realize that the garments created aren’t meant to be worn on a day to day basis they are meant to be inspiring as they are pieces if art that students have created.
As one of the students whose work was featured it’s a bit sad that you would leave comments like that.

the young fashion students of today are our future.

Dear Colin D.
Did you even bother to find out about the evening? The students were given a task to develop designs with a theme. And they excelled themselves! Creative and very very artistic in their approach. The students had a fabulous night and we very much enjoyed viewing their originality and thought provoking outfits.
So you see Mr CD that Shropshire does in fact have TALENT!

It’s really good to see that we have such talented young people in Shropshire! Well done everyone involved.

just wanted to thank everyone who supported and helped out with all the garments made. and to all those who watched! the show wouldn’t of been possible without all of you! Sad to be leaving the course but i am so proud of everyone!
Shame we couldn’t see the actual creations on the video!! You could hardly see a thing on the catwalk, even when it’s blown up to full screen!

The fashion was amazing! the collections were outstandings. It was fun being on stage and i enjoyed it alot. Its took alot of time and effort for everyone completing there designs. I am proud of what ive acheived and i never thought id produce what i have done. Thanks to everyone also that came to watch me and our fashion show! it was a fun time.

An absolutely amazing show, I enjoyed every bit of it and was extremely proud of my daughter who modelled her designs and those of others. An absolute credit to the college – Well Done.

I am a lecturer on the Fashion course at Shrewsbury College, and I wanted to say how very sad that the first opening comment on this article was such a heartless and negative one! This article celebrates the pure talent and dedication of Shropshires young people and demonstrates that a small town in the Midlands can be just as inovative as London! The students and the staff all worked so hard and there were unseen extra hours and commitment to make the show the huge success that it was.
So Colin D, I would like to tell all my students how proud I am of them and to thank my colleagues for their total commitment and to ignore this very childish man!
Thanks to the Theatre Seven for the amazing venue.

Hi Colin, as the course leader for fashion I just wanted to respond to your comments. If you knew anything about fashion it would be obvious to you that art school fashion shows represent big eye catching ideas which are then filtered down to eventually influence the high street some time in the future. We ask our students at Shrewsbury to create a concept- “a big idea” that will inspire the whole collection, not something which would be available now in Primark. What would be the point in that as it already exists? Perhaps your imagination is not as open as those of our very talented students as in difficult times fashion is always outrageous.Clothes stand for knowledge, language, art and love, time and death, the creative struggling state of man.

Hi Colin, I thought you’re comment was very negative and i’m wanting to go to shrewsbury collage to do fashion when i leave school. Its my first choice to go there! The work the students AND staff produce is at a very high standard so get some respect. I thought the show was absolutely Amazing! Every one puts so much effort into the show, every year! i’d know that because my mum is there teacher and last week wasn’t home until late! That because she was working her socks off to make everything PERFECT! and to be honest Colin she’s reached perfection.

I’m proud to say that I was involved with these amazingly talented young people in making their collections.
Their imaginative and innovative styles equalled anything I’ve seen in London college shows.
Colin D would obviously be more impressed if these sudents created safe little numbers in beige polyester!

Art: You either love it or you hate it. But it seems to me that its creators hate those who hate it.

At last some balance, a pity the course leaders can’t see it.

Well,,,,,I do seem to have upset a lot of people don’t I?
I have just watched the video again, and I have to say, my opinion has not changed.
Would anyone really wish to be seen wearing these ridiculous “creations”?
As for the comment that they are not meant to be worn on a day to day basis, then what on earth is the point of producing them?
Primark sell fashion clothes, lots of them, I wonder how many of the monstrosities, on display in this video, they would sell were they to stock them. None would be a conservative estimate.
Art??? Talent??? Where??

You cant possibley see the garments from the short clip on here! Were you at the show? NO, i dont think so! You are entitled to your oppinion Colin D, that is not in dispute here, but what IS sad is that you should have been so negative and not allowed the creative process to be recognised and celebrated. These students will find their natural potion in life, some make it to very good jobs in the industry, some just use this time to explore their options, but either way they are not out of the streets and claiming dole or other exploited benefits! Is that not worth celebrating in itself? I am very proud of them and the course!

Colin D, I do feel rather sorry for you and your blinkered view.
Like these students, I went through the usual art school training making garments like these, before a lengthy career working as a designer for stores like Next, M&S, Principles, Wallis etc, churning out the usual safe but wearable clothes.
These students may follow the same track, they might be the next big name in fashion, or work as buyers, fashion photographers, stylists etc, but without that imagination that is being encouraged by some inspirational tutors they won’t stand a chance in getting a foot on the ladder.

McJim you sound like you have noooooo creative juices in your body :)Shame as it brings out the best in many types of industry.
Everything starts off from one just one idea. It’s great you should try it! :)

Apart from working in the design teams of some fairly exclusive car manufacturers in my time, no.
You are missing the point by a mile, art like meat can be anothers poison.
It seems these days that unless you can say something to praise you have to keep your gob shut, criticism whether constructive or destructive is not allowed.
A fine way to learn the ways of the world where everybody says ‘yes’ to everything and anything you may want to do.
I see in my crystal ball there are some big surprises around the next corner for many.

Gosh! Where do I begin, Firstly with Colin D, no wonder the teenagers of this country are always given a bad name, because when they do good things and show an intrest in something people like you always pull them down and never give praise. Anyway enough time wasted on you.
Im a mature student on the HNC in fashion at Shrewsbury college unfortunatly due to family circumstances my work was not in the show. I have spent the last few weeks with the students and staff helping out, and its been great to see all the hard work that the students and staff have put in, and to see all that on the catwalk on Friday was brilliant. I think there is some great talent and all the students and their parents should be proud of what that have achived. I wish all the second years all the best for the future and I look forward to being back with some of them next year. I can not wait to see what lovely creation’s the now 1st years come up in their collection.
Im so glad to be back, and I thank all of the students and staff for inspiring me to carry on and finish my HNC and I look forward to next years show.

As for “Colin D” please make everyone aware of your backround and qualifications in fashion as to which you base these comments upon. Otherwise refrain from leaving your snarly uneducated comments and go back to your inspiring life of stalking a different internet forum.

Just to confirm that no tax payers were harmed in the production of our end of year fashion show which was staged to cover its costs.

Mr McJin
Fashion is not like designing cars it’s whole different ball game.
We all have a view with fashion. You may like flares i however do not.. But it all started from one seed. Thats how everything evolves in fashion whether you like it or not.
Fashion is all about planting seeds of thought the same as art. There is some art i do not like but what it does is spur people on to create alternatives that maybe more suitable to individuals.
The clothes you wear come from a fashion shop high street or designer.
My crystal ball says “Fashion is here for eternity” How fun!
