More time for National Grid pylon talks
Friday 17th June 2011, 2:56PM BST.
People living in rural areas of Shropshire and Mid Wales will have more time to have their say on plans to connect wind farms to the National Grid after Scottish Power announced an extension to consultation.
Scottish Power says the consultation period into its plans, which could see hundreds of pylons built across the countryside, will be extended until July 7.
The company is extending the deadline to ensure as many people as possible can express their views.
Company bosses will also be attending a number of follow-up public meetings in the coming weeks, and want to ensure that anyone attending has sufficient time to consider the details of proposals and feed back their comments.
It comes as members of Welshpool Town Council prepare to reveal the results of a survey of residents’ views on the plans today. Questionnaires have been posted through every door in the town and the official count was taking place this morning.
Scottish Power Energy Networks is consulting on plans to connect up to 700MW of renewable energy generation from at least 10 wind farms in Mid Wales.
This is being considered in parallel with National Grid who plan to construct a new substation and a new transmission connection to the national electricity grid.
The final location of the proposed substation is also subject to consultation.
