Third raid at Telford children’s nursery
Wednesday 15th June 2011, 2:28PM BST.
Thieves have smashed their way into a Shropshire children’s nursery for the third time in eight months, it was revealed today, after intruders broke through three doors to get in.
Thieves broke into Abacus Day Nursery, in Ketley Bank, Telford, on Monday night before ransacking the office and stealing a filing cabinet.
The cabinet contained £30 cash, as well as personal details of around 33 children and six staff members, including names, addresses and phone numbers.
Police have launched an inquiry into the incident, which is believed to have taken place between 9pm on Monday and 7.15am yesterday, and urged people with information to step forward.
Sam Stokes, 26, supervisor at the nursery, said: “Fortunately the documents, which included personal information on both children and adults, were found by the caretaker and returned to the nursery.
“This is the third time in eight months we have been broken into.
“This time however they kicked and smashed their way through three doors before turning over the office. It was a mess and will cost hundreds of pounds to repair. The parents of the children are concerned.”
Denise Wakefield, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said the filing cabinet “was extremely heavy and would have needed at least two people to carry it”.
