A man today denied murdering a woman in a village near Shrewsbury when he appeared before a High Court judge.

Steven Roland Churchill, 51, of Stephenson Drive, Hanwood, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Jane Francis Edwards on December 14 last year.

The body of Miss Edwards, a woman in her 50s, was found in a flat in Caradoc View.

During the half-hour hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, the Honourable Mr Justice Spencer was told the earliest date for a trial would be November at Birmingham Crown Court.

A pre-trial review is likely to be held in October. The trial is expected to start in the week beginning November 28.

Churchill was remanded in custody.
