A Shropshire town burst into colour on Saturday as thousands of visitors flooded into Newport to celebrate the once-threatened annual carnival.

Newport Carnival was in danger of folding after members of last year’s organising committee resigned. But those worries were far from the minds of people lining the streets to support the event.

Crowds enjoyed a 10k road race and a procession of floats among other activities.
