A Shrewsbury sex offender who breached an order banning him from using the internet by buying laptops with money stolen from his seriously ill sister has been jailed.

Robert Jeffrey, 49, of Montrose Place, Bicton Heath, admitted the theft of £1,933 from his sister's bank account and also fraudulently using her credit card to buy items worth £540 while she was in hospital in January last year.

He also admitted breaching a sexual offences prevention order five times this year and last year by possessing laptops and a mobile phone with internet access.

And Jeffrey also admitted possessing indecent photographs of children.

He was jailed for a total of two years for the offences at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.

Mr Kevin Smith, prosecuting, said Jeffrey had been made subject of a 10-year sexual offences order in 2007 which banned him from using the internet.

Mr Smith said Jeffrey's sister last year found money had been taken from her bank and credit card accounts and the money used to buy computers. He said the phone was found to have indecent images of girls aged 16 and 17.

Miss Jane Sarginson, for Jeffrey, said the images were at the least serious level one category. She said Jeffrey had initially acted as his sister's carer.
