Rail passengers in Shropshire faced major delays this morning after a fatal incident in Chester.
Services between Chester and Shrewsbury were affected between 6am and 9am.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said officers were called to the railway line close to Victoria Road, Chester, after a report of a woman on the line.
“BTP and Cheshire Police officers attended the incident, which was reported at 5.39am, and is currently being treated as non-suspicious,” he said.
“Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service also attended but the woman, believed to be 34 years old and from Chester, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to establish the full circumstances including how the woman came to be on the tracks.”
