Pair admit roles in killing of Telford father Stephen Round
Thursday 9th June 2011, 11:09AM BST.
James Haigh and Melissa Parkes both admitted the manslaughter of Mr Round, after 28-year-old Zena Jane Tinsley had pleaded guilty to murder earlier yesterday.
The attack happened in the flat shared by Haigh and Parkes in Church Street between June 27 and July 2.
Mr Stephen Linehan, prosecuting, told the court Tinsley, of Boulton Grange, Randlay, kicked, punched and stamped on Mr Round in a sustained attack and returned to hit his lifeless body.
He said Haigh, 31, and Parkes also each struck Mr Round in the onslaught.
Mr Round’s mother, who was in court, broke down in tears and was comforted by family members when details of what happened in the flat emerged.
Tinsley, Haigh and Parkes also each admitted conspiring together to pervert the course of justice.
Sentence on all three defendants was adjourned to July for reports and they were remanded in custody.
Tinsley faces a mandatory life sentence and Mr Justice Robin Spencer told Haigh and Parkes they could expect substantial jail terms.
Haigh and Parkes had denied murdering Mr Round but admitted manslaughter and their pleas were accepted by the prosecution.
Mr Linehan told the court Mr Round’s family found the acceptance of Haigh and Parkes’s pleas difficult to take. But he said the prosecution was satisfied Tinsley had inflicted the fatal injuries during the attack and her co-defendants had just struck blows.
