Lake Vyrnwy bidder decision due soon
Wednesday 8th June 2011, 5:44PM BST.
Villagers will now have to wait until the summer at the earliest to find out who will be put forward as the preferred bidder for the £11 million 25-year lease for the Lake Vyrnwy estate.
The 23,000 acres of land was put on the market last year by Severn Trent and includes agriculture, forestry and commercial property around the lake.
A number of interested parties have put in a bid for the lease including Bala-born businessman Rhys Jones, the RSPB and Mid Wales Housing Association.
It was thought the successful bidder would be revealed last autumn but the process was delayed and villagers then hoped to hear early this year.
Today Sarah-Jayne O’Kane, spokeswoman for Severn Trent, said: “Due to the continuation of our due diligence process, a decision has yet to be put to the board on a preferred bidder for the Lake Vyrnwy.
“We expect this to take place over the summer following which there will be a 12-week consultation period with the Countryside Council for Wales.”
But residents in the area today said they were growing frustrated.
Margaret Hughes, from Heulfron in Llanwddyn, said: “We have been waiting all this time and they promised us they would announce it in the spring. How much longer do we have to wait?
“It is very frustrating and also worrying.”
County councillor Simon Baynes said: “I think that the frustration is the not knowing what the future holds.”
