Oswestry to get new tourist signs
Monday 6th June 2011, 2:48PM BST.
Thousands of pounds are being ploughed into a project to help point tourists in the right direction in Oswestry.
Town officials concerned that tourists were getting lost are to spend £22,500 on new fingerpost signs for the centre.
The signs have been designed to help those with sight difficulties and will be installed in the next three months.
Last week the project was awarded £2,000 from the Oswestry Local Joint Committee.
Town signs are currently blue with silver writing but the new ones will be black and white to clearly mark out tourist spots.
Betty Gull, chairman of Oswestry Borderland Tourism Ltd, said: “For years we have been trying to improve signs in Oswestry.
“People who can’t see very well can’t read what the current signs say.
“Now there won’t be so many mystified people wondering around the town.”

In view of the Article headed “Oswestry like a weekend ‘war zone’, say cabbies”. Perhaps one of the signs should read “NO-GO AREA”

How can you get lost in Oswestry? It’s a tiny place! It was quite a pretty place but all photos will now be marred by excessive street furniture and signage. What a shame:(
