This year’s big Shropshire vintage rally got under way today as delighted officials revealed a late surge of entries meant they were expecting a near-record turnout for the event.
Organiser Derek Sheedy, of the Mid Shropshire Vintage Club, had been planning for about 700 vehicles to be “on parade” at the agricultural showground at Berwick Road, Shrewsbury, this weekend.
But he said they had been boosted by late entries including historic cars, lorries, tractors and military vehicles pushing that figure up by at least 100.
Mr Sheedy said: “There has been an encouraging late surge of entries – many of them from within Shropshire – which will boost the total number of vehicles on view to around 800 plus. This means that the level of interest among enthusiasts and the public will be that much wider.”
