Shropshire heart transplant girl Zoe Croft’s prom dream
Thursday 2nd June 2011, 6:57PM BST.
Shropshire heart transplant girl Zoe Croft has set herself the goal of attending the school prom her family feared she might never see – just days after major surgery.
Zoe, 16, of Myddle, near Wem, is in hospital recovering from a heart transplant.
But her parents Steven and Tracey say now she is dreaming of being the belle of the ball when friends and teachers gather for a big send off in just under four weeks’ time.
Zoe, who attends Corbet School in Baschurch, had the operation just over a week ago.
At first she came down with what doctors thought was a virus or possibly asthma about five weeks ago.
But just days later Zoe was fighting for her life in hospital after suffering heart failure, sparking a nationwide race to find a suitable donor organ in time.
Mr Croft, who is keeping a bedside vigil at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, said his daughter was now out of intensive care and continuing her recovery after a successful operation.
But dreams of going to the prom are foremost in Zoe’s mind as she battles back to health. He said: “Zoe already has a ticket for the prom at the Albright Hussey.
“She really wants to go, even if she can only manage it for an hour, because she’s missed the last couple of weeks of school and really wants to see off her friends and teachers.
“She’s very keen on the idea and we hope she can attend. It’s less than four weeks away.”
