Fresh look at Telford redevelopment plans

Developers are taking a fresh look at £1 billion plans to transform the centre of Telford – and a new multiplex cinema and restaurant complex could be first off the drawing board, it was revealed today.

Hark Apollo also said an “iconic” new store was on the cards.

The developer said a number of “welcome” changes had prompted it to review its proposals, notably government support for town centres and a new administration in power at Telford & Wrekin Council, Labour having ousted the Tories at last month’s local elections.

Hark director Rob Cossey said: “Recent positive developments at both a national and local level have prompted us to consider how best to continue the successful growth of Telford town centre.

“It is right therefore that we re-examine our current retail and leisure offer in the town centre and we are excited to announce that this is likely to include a new multiplex cinema and restaurant complex.

“As the preliminary image shows, this is a striking new development which marks the next phase in our plans to regenerate the town centre. We welcome the clear statement from the new council administration to work forward with us to achieve this vision together.”

Mr Cossey said early initiatives included the acceleration of discussions with leading cinema operators for the new multiplex cinema, a review to broaden the scope for retail development fronting Central Southwater and the pursuit of plans for a new iconic multiple retail store within the box road boundary.

Hark Apollo bought Telford Shopping Centre for more than £400 million in June, 2007.

Didn’t we already get an “iconic” new store a coiple of years back? Did Beatties make a lot of difference to life in Telford centre?

Same old spin as ever, methinks.

Actions, not words, Hark Apollo and then I may find it within myself to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Meanwhile, people, why not have a night out to see what they done for us already – why not spend some time exploring Telford’s exciting city centre night-time social scene.

    Enjoy!

Exciting and night-time, is not a good choice in same sentence …anybody who has done their home work, will find Telford doesn’t have the numbers out at night time..And what’s here for anybody to travel to? Nothing nor will there ever be.
I think you should concentrate on family’s, cinema, water world, bowling, combined with the town park and Ironbridge, and a few cheap eating places, would make it far more interesting for people to have a day out or weekend in Telford …
