Online petition launched to save Welshpool sixth form

Civic leaders in Welshpool have launched an online petition to save the town high school’s sixth form from closure.

Welshpool Town Council also want Government officials to allocate more funding to Welshpool High School. The school is the most underfunded in the county of Powys, despite it being one of the biggest, and is one of the 13 high schools being reviewed by Powys County Council.

The county council has revealed plans to radically transform secondary education in Powys, which could result in the closure of some sixth forms. Proposals include the possibility of merging some sixth forms and relocating others to Coleg Powys sites.

Robert Robinson, town clerk for Welshpool, said he hoped hundreds of people would sign the petition at http://robinson.epetitions.net

He said: “We want to keep the sixth form at Welshpool High School open and see no reason why things should change.”

With our Welsh cousins having underestimated their liability with regards to their university grants to the tune of £800 million good luck with trying to maintain this waste of money.

The sooner we in England stop supporting our scrounging, layabout relatives across the border the better!
