Shrewsbury Town players complete Three Peaks Challenge
Friday 27th May 2011, 4:14PM BST.
Four Shrewsbury Town players battled against 60mph winds to complete their Three Peaks Challenge at Snowdon one day ahead of schedule.
Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Nicky Wroe and recently-released pair David Raven and Kevin McIntyre headed to the Welsh mountain yesterday after managing to climb both Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike on Wednesday.
Traffic problems on the M6 meant the quartet had a take a detour on their way to Snowdon, but they managed to arrive on schedule to begin the ascent.
Cansdell-Sherriff said the group had taken one of the lesser-used routes up Snowdon, which had proved to be a challenge when bad weather set in.
“It was really foggy and windy and we had rain surrounding us,” he said.
“It was a little bit scary but we knew the direction we needed to be heading in.
Tough
“It was tough but at the same time the boys enjoyed the challenge and worked really hard for it.
“Mentally, Snowdon probably was the toughest one.
“It was non-stop rain and wind pretty much. We had got two of the supposedly toughest ones out of the way in one day. But Snowdon was also really challenging.”
Cansdell-Sherriff said the group decided to take a different route down the mountain after reaching the summit which was more protected from the elements.
He also revealed that they had beaten the £2,000 target they set for donations at the start of the challenge, with the money set to be donated to Hope House Children’s Hospice in Oswestry.
“Any extras would be a great bonus,” he added.
