Call for review of Oswestry Central Car Park
Friday 27th May 2011, 3:03PM BST.
Concerned residents who live around Oswestry’s main car park have been assured that their concerns about how it is operated will be looked at by council bosses.
The Roft Street Residents’ Association had written to Oswestry Town Council saying they wanted a complete rethink of the way the Central Car Park is operated.
Group members say changes could be made which could be of benefit to the town as well as to people who live next to the car park.
They have asked for the layout of the car park, and its entrance and exits to be reviewed.
At a meeting of Oswestry Town Council on Wednesday councillors agreed to look at the future layout.
Town clerk David Preston said: “For many years the council has been talking to residents about the difficulties they face as neighbours to the town’s main car park.”
He said the council would be looking at the issues. But he said: “Ultimately a balance is needed between the needs of townsfolk, traders and tourists.”
The town council had been looking at updating the Central Car Park including bringing in a new pay system. However, councillors put plans on hold when a developer put an application forward to build a superstore and cinema on the car park.
