A stand-up gig by Shropshire-born comedian Greg Davies at a county theatre is becoming an internet hit.
The 6ft 8ins funnyman filmed a programme for Dave TV at Theatre Severn, in Shrewsbury, earlier this year and it has since been uploaded to YouTube and viewed almost 900 times.
His gig, which also featured rising comedians Tom Deacon and Roisin Conaty, started with a sketch inspired by a news story in the Shropshire Star.
Mr Davies had asked the newspaper to forward copies of the March 3 edition of the paper to his production team so that he could use it in his routine. The story, which told the tale of a rude Shropshire dentist who was found guilty of belching and breaking wind in front of patients, was the subject of a sketch that opened his show.
Prior to the gig, Mr Davies told the Shropshire Star that he did not want to offend either the newspaper or the county by using the material. However, he said the story had been so funny that he felt he had to use it in his stand-up routine.
During the YouTube footage, Mr Davies tells his audience that he wanted to start his gig with a piece of material that his mum had suggested to him – the story about the dentist. He told fans that the story had made him roar with laughter.
Mr Davies’ gig also featured more material about his Shropshire roots, with plenty of stories told about his upbringing in Wem. There is coverage of him visiting different parts of Shropshire.
