Concern after driver’s lift offer to girl, 14
Thursday 26th May 2011, 2:46PM BST.
A frightened teenage girl ran off after being approached by a driver on the outskirts of a village near Oswestry who tried to get her in his car.
The driver pulled up on the outskirts of Kinnerley and persisted in trying to offer the 14-year-old girl a lift, police said today.
She declined the offer and the motorist drove away as the frightened girl ran off.
Police said the incident happened at about 7pm on Tuesday and they are anxious to find the motorist as it might have been a totally innocent approach.
Detective Constable Paul Rogers said the girl was dressed in school uniform when a car pulled up alongside her next to a dirt track known as Brookhouse Lane.
He said: “I’m appealing for the driver to come forward so we can resolve the matter.
“His behaviour was suspicious and the young girl was understandably frightened.”
He urged anyone who saw the incident or who may know the identity of the driver to call Oswestry CID on 0300 333 3000.
The vehicle is described as a silver estate car, possibly a Peugeot, with the registration prefix W.
The driver was white, in his early 40s, with short blond hair and clean shaven.
He was wearing round framed glasses.
