Telford boy, 2, knocked off scooter
Wednesday 25th May 2011, 11:29AM BST.
A two-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked off his scooter outside his Telford home.
Emergency services were called to Bourneside Drive in Brookside just before 5.30pm yesterday.
The boy was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after sustaining a “significant” head injury and suspected internal injuries.
Ambulance chiefs said it was believed the boy had collided with a van.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Due to the boy’s serious injuries the emergency doctor anaesthetised him to help stabilise his condition and travelled in the helicopter with him to continue vital treatment and assessment en-route.”
A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said: “The child was taken to hospital with serious injuries and his parents are in hospital with him.”
A resident of Bourneside Drive, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s awful and very sad – my thoughts are very much with the family.
“I was working all day and came home to find emergency services along the road.
“There’s a few young boys on the estate and I’m not sure who it was.
“All I’ve heard is that he got knocked over by a van.”
