Shrewsbury’s Race For Life a huge success
Monday 23rd May 2011, 3:54PM BST.
Organisers of Shrewsbury’s Race for Life today hailed the event a “fantastic” success as women turned out in force to join in the fun and support the annual fundraising festivities.
Entrants donned an array of fairy wings, feather boas and fancy dress in every shade of pink.
Organisers Cancer Research UK said it needed the support of people in Shrewsbury to help raise cash.
And Katherine Culshaw, Race for Life event manager for Shrewsbury, said she was delighted with the success of yesterday’s race at the agricultural showground in Berwick Road, Shrewsbury.
She said: “Race for Life in Shrewsbury was a fantastic event and we are so very grateful to everyone who took part or supported our participants, as well as the wonderful volunteers who helped make the event happen.
“Now the big day is over, we are asking our supporters to take one last step by returning the money they have raised so that we can go on funding much needed research.”
In the 1960s, fewer than three out of 10 children were successfully treated, but now it is more than seven out of 10. And more than 95 per cent of men with testicular cancer are cured and more women are surviving breast cancer.
