Shropshire MPs to hold talks on London rail link
Thursday 19th May 2011, 5:41PM BST.
Shropshire MPs are set to hold crunch talks with three train companies in the next few weeks as the battle continues to reinstate a direct rail link to London from the county.
The five MPs are pushing for an operator to restore a direct route after the loss of the Wrexham & Shropshire service at the end of January.
The only way of reinstating a rail link to the capital is to see whether the service could be included in the West Coast franchise, which is currently under review.
North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski, Ludlow MP Philip Dunne, Wrekin MP Mark Pritchard and Telford MP David Wright have already held talks with Transport Minister Theresa Villiers about the possibility of a new service.
They have also held discussions with officials at Virgin Trains in London about the feasibility of them including Shropshire in their submission to the Government.
