Shrewsbury Quarry 80s concert cancelled

The firm behind Shrewsbury Quarry’s popular 80s concerts today announced that this year’s event has been cancelled.

The show, which regularly attracts thousands of people, is organised by IML Concerts and was to have taken place on Saturday, July 16.

Kim Wilde and Marc Almond were the headline names on the bill, which also was to feature Kid Creole and The Coconuts, Imagination, China Crisis and Captain Sensible.

But a statement on IML’s website today said: “It is with much regret that IML announces that we have taken the decision to cancel The 80s Show 2011 due to circumstances beyond our control.

“All ticket-holders will be offered a full refund at the point of purchase and we have asked each box office to contact them immediately.

“If you booked via the IML Box Office then letters are being sent out today first class.

“If you would prefer to swap your tickets to Friday 15th and the Status Quo concert, then please liaise with your point of purchase.”

Oh dear..The Captain must be in need of a quick injection of liquidity to end up on the same bill as this bunch of Championship mid-tablers. Actually that’s not quite fair, KC was interesting for a year or two..and of course his Coconuts more than helped.

Town Walls, I notice you don’t offer your name, why did you not want the good people of Shropshire to enjoy themselves on your doorstep, assuming your location is not a front as well ? Is Victor Meldrew alive and well on Town Walls ?
I feel very sorry for you.

    Develop our town

Can we assume that this is another victory for the STCRA who will stifle the town centre for anyone other than there own benefit?

The sooner they are out or ignored the sooner our town can bloom!

Maybe as part of the Southwater redevelopment in Telford they should redevelop and extend the amphitheatre – then bring the concerts to somewhere that won’t whinge and complain about them constantly …..

I doubt it has anything to do with STCRA when The Quo are still playing the day before. In my opinion, a much more worthy and exciting show anyway. The 80′s show been done far too much now!!

i think it has alot to do with the 693 tickets that had been sold, IML stood to lose $$$$$$
    - very poor line up

Agree, aside from Kim, not a particularly inspiring line up this year – hence why the 60 of us from the works social club who usually go didn’t buy this year

Previous concerts have been really good. So a bit disappointed

This has probably got more to do with poor ticket sales than NIMBY red tape in fairness. Same gig for three years running, when do the cheesy 90′s line ups start.
You could have an evening of middle aged fat blokes that used to be pretty boys singing Barry Manilow covers..

    let me have my say

May be the real reason is the thought of having a 4 mile no parking zone, like the elton john gig !!!!

Apart from the excellent Marc Almond and Kim Wilde it was a poor line up the other acts were never really that big in their heyday never mind now!

Why all the fuss over a bunch of has beens???

Do we in Shrewsbury really need to settle for a bunch of has beens who wern’t even that special in the decade from where they came?

If it was an 80′s do boasting Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, AC/DC, Wham and Joy Division then i might well understand the point of it! it seems to project the image that the people of shrewsbury are happy to settle for second rate tosh.

Even the Quo could be listed as has beens!
