Police take action on driving offences in Mid Wales
Thursday 12th May 2011, 12:32PM BST.
Ten motorists have been dealt with by police for a variety of offences during a crackdown in Mid Wales, the force said today.
Dyfed-Powys Police held the operation in Knighton and one motorist, who was stopped, has since been charged with drink-driving.
Three further motorists were given endorsable fixed penalty notices, one was given non-endorsable fixed penalty notices, one had no MOT and four speeding motorists have been sent on speed awareness courses.
Constable Bill Cowan, of Knighton Police, said the operation was held after residents complained about speeding and anti-social driving in the town by boy and girl racers.
He said: “The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit based in Newtown together with local officers conducted speed checks in the Knighton and Beguildy areas.
“In total 10 drivers were dealt with for a variety of offences with three endorsable fixed penalty tickets and one non endorsable fixed penalty ticket being issued.”
He said a 52-year-old local man was arrested during the operation and later charged with drink-driving having given an alcohol reading of three and a half times the legal limit.
The driver will be appearing at the Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court on May 25.
