Bomere Heath villagers in meeting over pylon plans
Thursday 5th May 2011, 3:28PM BST.
Residents in a village near Shrewsbury have been thrashing out details of new plans that could see hundreds of pylons built across Shropshire and Mid Wales with chiefs in charge of the project.
More than 50 people attended the public drop-in event in Bomere Heath Village Hall yesterday.
It follows news that power bosses behind proposals will give the public extra time to have their say and comes after NFU members met National Grid chiefs today to discuss proposals for a new 400kV power line to link wind farms in Mid Wales with existing power lines in Shropshire.
Jane Taylor, a spokeswoman for National Grid, said: “We had between 50 and 60 people through the doors. Visitors were pleased to have their say and talk to project and construction managers who were able to answer their questions.”
Pam Furber, clerk of Bomere Heath Parish Council, said the reaction from residents was unlikely to be as strong as in other areas because they are not as greatly affected by the plans.
She said: “It all depends which route they pick, but it might affect us a tiny bit where the pylons join up to the main power line in the Walford Heath area.”
Meanwhile, villagers in Four Crosses, near Oswestry, are being urged to attend another consultation meeting on Monday to discuss how the pylons would affect the village.
Another National Grid consultation meeting is to be held at Llandysilio Village Hall, Four Crosses, on May 25.
