Telford voters set for polling day
Wednesday 4th May 2011, 11:03AM BST.
Thousands of voters across Telford are expected to hit the polls tomorrow as final preparations are made for the borough elections.
People will vote for their favoured candidate on Telford & Wrekin Council while town and parish councillors will also be voted in.
Meanwhile, support for a change to Britain’s voting system is falling away, a poll today suggested with less than 24 hours to go before the nation makes up its mind on the issue.
The ComRes survey showed attitudes were hardening against AV, giving the No camp a 32 point lead on 66 per cent compared to 34 per cent for the Yes campaign – a 12-point jump since last week.
Across the border, Welsh Assembly candidates in Mid Wales were also gearing up for their last full day of campaigning before voters head to the polls.
In Telford & Wrekin, nearly 41,000 people applied for a postal vote and bosses at the borough council have said 50 per cent of postal voters have already cast their vote.
Telford’s returning officer Victor Brownlees said: “I urge local people to take 10 minutes out of their busy schedules to visit a polling station to cast their vote.
“It’s never been more important to have your say,” he said.
The borough’s 76 polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm and results for the borough elections are expected by around 4am on Friday.

Interesting comment because the BBC has recently reported that support for AV had improved by 8 points in the last few days?
Care to actually let us in on which poll this is or do we have to buy the Shropshire Star to find out?
