Bridgnorth man admits stabbing his mother
Wednesday 4th May 2011, 8:32PM BST.
A 20-year-old Bridgnorth man who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome today admitted stabbing his mother three times when “hopelessly drunk” – but denied attempting to murder her.
Daniel Blore, of Innage Crescent, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to 54-year-old Janet Blore.
The plea at Wolverhampton Crown Court was made on the basis that his memory of the incident was hazy because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed.
Blore denied attempting to murder his mother just after 9pm on January 11 and the plea was accepted by the prosecution.
Prosecutor Mr Philip Beardwell revealed that Mrs Blore had been stabbed once in the neck and twice in the back with a small knife. He added: “This was a nasty injury but not life threatening.”
Judge Robin Onions said: “He could have killed his mother if he wanted to.
“The difficulty for the prosecution if they had proceeded with the attempted murder charge would have been proving that this young man could have formed an intention to kill while hopelessly drunk.”
Mark Sharman, defending, said Mrs Blore was still in contact with her son.
Judge Onions said: “He is going to need her support in the future. It is a sad and difficult condition that is much misunderstood.
“It appears he was drinking to escape because he does not see the world as others see it.
“It is going to be a custodial sentence, and a long sentence. The issue will be whether it is determinate or indeterminate.”
Blore was remanded in custody until sentence, provisionally set for June 3 at Stafford Crown Court.
A report will also be prepared by a specialist.
