Farmer promises messy protest over pylons plan
Tuesday 3rd May 2011, 3:12PM BST.
A Mid Wales farmer today pledged to drive his muck spreader to the Welsh Assembly and cover the building with manure.
His action depends on whether plans go ahead to build a massive power station and huge pylons in Shropshire and Mid Wales.
The farmer, from the Welshpool area, is refusing to be named until he carries out the act.
He said he was so angered at the plans by the National Grid and Scottish Power he planned to drive his tractor and muck spreader down to the Senedd building in Cardiff and take action.
He said: “If they plan to dump their muck on us, then I will do the same to them.”
Myfanwy Alexander, a campaigner from near Welshpool, said she knew the farmer and backed his plans to travel to the capital.
She said: “We had a meeting to discuss what we could do to show how we feel about these plans and we thought if we were French we would do something massive to show our disgust.”
Plans could see hundreds of pylons and a 19-acre substation in either Abermule or Cefn Coch.
