What’s going on here? Car owner asks

Saturday 30th April 2011, 11:29AM BST.

What’s going on here, then? This man was captured on CCTV by Paul Ryder, of Granville Street in Copthorne, Shrewsbury.

He is seen by a security camera trying the door of Mr Ryder’s car before returning a few hours later to test the door of his home.

Police were called immediately but have been unable to track down the man in the film — and Mr Ryder has now posted it on YouTube.

Mr Ryder said that he hoped the man would be recognised by someone who watches the video.

“At least he knows he is being watched,” said Mr Ryder. “He knows where my house is, so it would be nice to know who he is.”

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, with the man first appearing outside the home at around 12.50am.

He is seen initially trying the door of Mr Ryder’s car, before going on to attempt to open a van that was also parked in the driveway.

Having had no success with either, he walked off into the night.

But that was not the end of the man’s evening.

He returned to the same property just before 4am and walked up to the porch to try the door handle.

The latter attempt woke Mr Ryder, who spotted the man making his way towards a neighbour’s property after failing to gain entry to his home. He then called police, who arrived on the scene “within two or three minutes” to investigate the report.

The police attempted to track down the man but had no luck in finding him in the neighbourhood.

Maria Hawkaluk, Shropshire police spokeswoman, confirmed officers reached the scene just after 4.10am and conducted a search of the area which proved to be unsuccessful.

The man is described as white, 6ft tall and in his 20s. He was wearing an white hooded top and dark blue jeans.

The incident is being investigated and anyone with information is advised to call 0300 333 3000.
