More time to comment on Shropshire pylon plans

Power bosses behind proposals which could see hundreds of pylons built across Shropshire and Mid Wales have given the public extra time to have their say.

ScottishPower said it would be extending its consultation period on the plans by a further six weeks.

And the firm said today it was considering holding more exhibitions over the coming weeks.

ScottishPower’s consultation period will now end on June 20.

National Grid, which is also behind the plans and has held dozens of exhibitions attracting thousands of people, said it would be looking into whether to hold extra events.

Bosses have been holding events to discuss routes for a 400,000 volt cable linking windfarms in Powys to the grid. The cable would go along 46-metre high pylons or be routed underground.

The plans include a substation being built in either Abermule, near Newtown, or Cefn Coch, near Llanfair Caereinion.

Steven Edwards, ScottishPower Energy Networks project manager, said: “The consultation events so far have been very well attended and it is important that we hear as many views as possible.

“We are committed to ensuring that communities have as much opportunity as possible to be part of the consultation process, and we hope that the additional events will also be well attended.”

A consultation was being held at Castle Caereinion community centre today between 1pm and 6pm and Llanfechain Village Hall from 2pm until 8pm.

Also at Berriew on Monday at 7pm; Welshpool town hall on May 6 from 2pm to 8pm and at Mochdre community centre near Newtown from 3pm to 7.30pm.
