Kim Wilde and Marc Almond set for Shrewsbury Quarry concert
Thursday 21st April 2011, 10:35AM BST.
Stars of the 80s including Marc Almond and Kim Wilde will line up in Shrewsbury for a summer concert in The Quarry.
They will be joined by other pop stars from that decade, including Kid Creole and The Coconuts, Imagination, China Crisis and Captain Sensible.
Keith Louch, director of IML Concerts, said: “We are delighted to be presenting another 80s night at The Quarry following many requests to our offices over the past three months.
“We have aimed to introduce artists that have not been part of the previous shows and feel sure that this line-up will be as exciting and enjoyable as the previous three years.”
The 80s will return to The Quarry on July 16. The show starts at 7.30pm and, with one small break, will be straight through for three hours.
The headline act will be Marc Almond, lead singer of Soft Cell, whose hit Tainted Love topped the charts in 17 countries. And Kim Wilde will be at The Quarry for the first time, performing her hits including Kids in America and Another Step.
Mr Louch said: “The concert will again be picnic-style so we encourage everyone to bring their own food and drink, although there will be catering outlets on site. Fans shouldn’t forget their dancing shoes.”
Tickets, £35, are available from IML Concerts on (01603) 660444 or www.imlconcerts.co.uk or www.theatresevern.co.uk

To be honest John she does look rather good , however last time I saw her she was a bit of a big bird talking about gardening she did not look like this then .

I have been however told to go to one of these shows as many punters provide the entertainment also .I have been told it does attract many elements from our wonderful society with picnic blankets and baskets, and cheap champaign and and not to forget those rather funny picnic chairs with cup holders and of course the over sized umbrella and the thats my spot brigade are in abundance .

You must have felt quite good about yourself being on a higher level of cultural intelligence for a bit there. Unfortunatly the very people you mock and look down your nose at will probably be able to spell champagne

Couldn’t spell it as I was quaffing it.

Oh goodie – another chance for every rah rah in the county to drag their pose-y picnic hampers to the Quarry, while the rest of us are locked out of the town’s main public park for a whole weekend.

Town Walls, I bet you don’t complain about the Flower Show, it must be awful being locked out of The Quarry for four whole days every year.
My heart bleeds for you.
Actually, I’m not all that keen on the Flower Show either – especially as it is not just the 2 days that it is open, but the weeks beforehand with tents and chairs scattered all over The Quarry.
Victoria Avenue and Porthill Bridge are very useful walking and cycling routes, but they are closed during these events.
We have one of the best public parks outside of London in this town. Why does it have to be cluttered up with shows, concerts and fairs so much?
Yes it is one of the best public parks outside London so we should be able to revel in that and make the most of it!
As for being ‘cluttered up’ – a week out of the year – I feel sorry for your life!

Town Walls
Did you have plans to go to the Quarry that weekend? Damn, that must be so frustrating for you. You should write a letter to somebody or other. If I were you, I would be absolutely furious that thousands of people will be having fun at my expense. Man!!! They should dedicate a song to you or something. Perhaps a big Live Aid style collaboraton. Failing that, I think everyone should have a bit of a whip round for you. I can see it now. Stewards holding buckets with ‘The Town Walls Slightly Inconvenienced This Weekend Fund’. I think there would be a great deal of sympathy. You should definitely pursue this, spread the word about your plight. Rest assured, you already have my full support. If there is anything I can do…

a concert in the quarry show casings 80′s one hit wonders? Whatever next? Actually I know what’ll be next: A concert in the quarry showcasing 80′s one hit wonders.
Come on please, lets have some a bit different next year.

Agreed!

There is nothing sadder than washed up 80s pop stars reduced to playing the nostalgia circuit….ABC, Toyah, Kim Wilde and the bloke from Spandau Ballet etc.
Nice Photoshop though.

That photograph was taken in the 80s, I bet that she does not look anything like it now.

How interesting ….. something else entertainment wise in the Quarry and people are whinging again …. mind you not a word yet about the (potential) volume ????
May I be as bold as to suggest that this is a commercial venture operated by a private company aware that there is a very large market in 80′s pop culture (mainly due to the appalling dross that has been generated since) and that large numbers of people will happily pay to attend thereby making it a commercial success.
Of course there should be variety, and perhaps people who would like differing forms of public entertainment should approach the organisers of this concert or indeed one of the many concert promoters eailsy found on searching Google, to see what they can do …
The Quarry is a jewel in Shrewsbury’s crown and everyone there should be rightly proud of it (and yes this is coming from someone living in that place which must never be mentioned within the loop !!). Make the most of it, and the tourist/visitor pounds which these events do, and have been shown to do, come through the doors of your shops, pubs and restaurants.
ohhh p.s. can you make sure it’s nice and loud so we can hear it this side of the Wrekin please – I’m working that night so won’t be able to get over ….
