River Severn body identified
Thursday 21st April 2011, 4:33PM BST.
The body of a man recovered from the River Severn near Shrewsbury has been identified.
Trevor Lee Green’s body was discovered by a member of the public near the bridge at Cressage on April 6.
Police were initially unable to identify the 53-year-old, of Stapleton Road, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury.
Officers notified forces nationwide with regard to long-term missing people on their records.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police today said identification had been made through DNA examination.
Police say Mr Green’s death was not being treated as “suspicious”. Mr Green was found by a man who was walking his dog.
Neighbours of Mr Green today expressed their shock at news of his death but said they had not seen him for a few months.
They described him as a pleasant man, who was quite private.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “I didn’t know him that well but he was a nice chap and would always say hello and have a chat.
“He was very religious and used to go to church on a Tuesday night. He would often go out on his bike as well.”
Another neighbour said: “It’s very sad news as he was a nice bloke. He kept himself to himself but you could talk with him.”
