Shropshire royal wedding events
Wednesday 20th April 2011, 4:30PM BST.
"Kate, apparently Peter Finch says he's decided not to come after all..."
Preparations are taking place across Shropshire to celebrate the royal wedding.
- A pub in Shrewsbury is aiming to raise money for Help For Heroes as part of its celebrations of the royal wedding. The Hop & Friar in St Julian’s Friars is set to open at 10am on April 29 to allow patrons to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton tying the knot on television. Following the marriage ceremony, a fun day in support of the armed forces charity will begin, with events lined up to take place between noon and 7pm. A host of events are planned, including a bouncy castle, face painting, a penalty shoot-out and a hook-a-duck competition.
- An award-winning Shropshire curry chef has decided to go back in history to help him conjure up a feast of celebration for the royal wedding. Abdul Husen from Cafe Saffron in Shrewsbury has drawn up a special menu by trawling back to the year 1840 and naming a curry after nearly all the royal weddings that have taken place since. He has even come up with two dishes in tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton as they prepare to tie the knot.
- Shoppers at Co-operative stores in Shropshire will be able to keep track of Kate and Wills’s big day as they walk down the aisles. The Co-operative Group is to provide live national broadcast coverage of the wedding on its in-store radio.
- The Crown Carvery restaurant at the Apley Arms in Telford has promised to dish up a free carvery meal to any customers who bring in a commemorative plate from a previous royal wedding. From April 19 to 29, excluding Sundays and bank holiday Mondays, anyone who brings in a commemorative royal wedding plate will get a free roast meal.

Can we have a list of Wedding free venues please? I’d like to be able to go out and avoid it completely.

Why are people bothering to celebrate the marriage of a couple they don’t know, with whom they have nothing in common and who probably regard them with contempt anyway?

Aren’t some people miserable codgers!
You don’t have to be an ardent Royalist to enjoy an event which can bring a community together. We are having a neighbourhood get together and very few of us are that bothered about the Royal family but we can be happy for a couple getting married and wish them well. There is enough bad news in the world. Let’s just celebrate something together – be happy!

Well said MJ , people are so cynical these days no one seems to be able to enjoy anything in good spirit without seeing a down or nasty side no wonder we are a nation of depressed people! This is OUR country OUR future head of state, the whole world will be watching us do what we do best and we should be proud, enjoy it,celebrate have a good time.
