The alleged victim of a rape attack in Telford had injuries to her face, neck, arm and back when she was examined by a police doctor, a court heard today.

Dr Christopher Lisk, a forensic medical advisor for West Mercia Police, told a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court that he had seen the 26-year-old woman after she reported being attacked at Randlay in 2009.

He said she had a fresh scratch on her nose and there were marks on the centre of her spine and under her right shoulder blade and to the front and left side of her neck.

Dr Lisk was giving evidence in the trial of 19-year-old Jamie Findlater who denies three allegations of rape.

Findlater, of Doddington, Hollinswood, Telford, also denies robbing the alleged victim of £30 during the daytime assault.

The jury was told by Dr Lisk that the woman also had fresh red friction marks and scratches on an elbow.

“On the back of her right hand there was a series of scratches which fitted with being in undergrowth. They were like a gardener’s marks,”said Dr Lisk.

He said that during the extensive medical examination a number of grass seeds and a hair were recovered from the victim for forensic analysis.

The court has heard that the attack took place in broad daylight in woods by a railway line close to the A442 in Randlay at about 5.15pm on August 11, 2009.

It is alleged that Findlater had grabbed the woman from behind as she walked home on a pathway before dragging her through undergrowth and raping her.

He is said to have taken four £10 notes from the victim before casually giving her one back and telling her not to tell anyone about what had happened. In a video interview, shown to the jury, the victim said she fell on her back and was tangled up with her bag and headphones.

She said the attacker sat on top of her and kept covering her face saying he did not want her to see him.

In an interview with police Findlater said that in August, 2009, he had been on a forklift truck driving course at Halesfield and regularly walked home close to where the attack happened, but not on the day of the attack. The trial continues.
